On Friday, April 28, 2023, Yvonne Ruth Wardlaw of Grosse Ile, Michigan peacefully passed into Heaven’s Glory at the age of eighty-eight while residing in her winter home in Palm City, Florida. Yvonne will be eternally missed by her children Yvette (Todd) Gronda and Michael Campeau, along with her adoring grandchildren Andrew and Alexis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who brought much love and joy into Yvonne’s life.
Yvonne was born on May 23, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Hulda and Cecil (Jerry) Buskard. She was the youngest of her three sisters and one brother. Yvonne grew up on a farm on Jim Dailey Road. She was a curious and determined child who figured out how to get herself to and from Girl Scouts, confirmation class, and Wyandotte Roosevelt High School, where she graduated with the class of 1952.
Yvonne used her natural detail-oriented disposition to pursue a career path in the secretarial world. She most notably worked for Ford Motor Company, AAA, and kept the books for the family business, Tuffy Mufflers. As an adult, Yvonne earned a B.S. degree through night school at Detroit College of Business in Business Administration.
Known for her kind words and smiles, Yvonne always sought new knowledge and adventure. Even as a young woman, Vonnie loved to travel. She was a gracious hostess and enjoyed sharing the farm life she led in Huron Twp. with others. Mostly, she loved spending time celebrating with family and friends.
Despite her kind and demur ways, Yvonne had a strong competitive streak. Golf was a large part of Vonnie’s life for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed the time spent outside with family and friends in a battle for the lowest score! She also loved when she could say she won $2 during an afternoon of playing bridge with friends.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Hulda, brother Gerald Buskard, and dear sisters Hazel Crichton, Shirley Aichler, and Loreen Angellotti. Twenty-nine years ago, she also lost her husband of thirty years, Rene F. Campeau. Yvonne’s second husband, George Wardlaw, has also since passed away. Yvonne was looking forward to reuniting with her passed loved ones in Heaven, especially her three beloved sisters!
Yvonne’s passion for life and sweet spirit will be greatly missed. She will be buried at Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI in the Buskard family plot. Visitation will be at Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Trenton Chapel on May 4, 2023 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trenton, Michigan on May 5 at 10:00 a.m. Yvonne will lie in state beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The family asks that those who are interested and able to please donate in Yvonne’s memory to Living Water Ministries’ scholarship fund earmarked for foster care week at camp. Checks may be made to Living Water Ministries with Yvonne Wardlaw written in the memo line.
