Winifred Marie Drotar

Click on the tribute wall above to view Winifred's service recording. Winifred was born on January 12, 1926. She was married 51 years to Johann (Lucas) Drotar, who had passed away in 1996. Winifred had 11 children and was preceded in death by her brother Robert Coon, husband Johann Drotar, and three sons Lucas Drotar, Thomas Drotar and Douglas Drotar. She is survived by her children Susanne Jongkind, James Drotar, Christopher Drotar, Frank Drotar, Terri Abbott, Robert Drotar, John Drotar and Karen Turgeon. Winifred has 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Prior to being married Winifred studied industrial art at Cass Tech, and upon graduation she began working as an advertisement artist. After being married Winifred’s life was centered around being a devoted wife and mother. She loved her children and wanted the best for her children. Her children in turn looked forward to visiting with their mother, where Winifred often had a meal cooking for the children. The grandchildren fondly remember visiting grandma’s and grandpa’s and all the wonderful aromas emanating from the kitchen. They all loved her clear soup, homemade noodles, goulash and paprikash. As a special treat for the children and grandchildren Winifred would make Hungarian delicacies kiffli and Kalacz. Family and relatives, and fondly remember Winifred as a fun-loving individual that was full of life. During family gatherings you would always see Winifred laughing at humorous jokes being told her. Winifred always loved a big gathering of children, grandchildren and relatives during holidays and family reunions; the more-the merrier. She thought nothing about cooking food for one who dropped in unexpectedly, and in turn anyone who are at her house enjoyed the cooking. During the last 4 years Winifred resided at Rivergate Health Care Center. The staff at Rivergate Health Care Center were very fond of Winifred, and always gave her special treats. The Staff was saddened by her passing and said that they will miss her
