Carroll, William Ward ~ age 80 of Taylor, Michigan passed away peacefully on October 31, 2014 with his loving Wife of 60 years, Wanda and family by his side. He was a Dear Father to 6 children ~ Cindy (Ron) Gilmer, Mary Lou (Chris) Russell, William Jr. (Vickie) Carroll, Lana (Len) Farrugia, Gayle Carroll and Brian (Staci) Carroll. Proud Grandfather of 21 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren. Born June 24, 1934 in Hohenwald, Tennessee and is preceded in death by his parents, Russ & Mary Lou Carroll and his two brothers C.D. and Jim. As a young boy, Bill worked along with his parents and brothers in the family business (Carroll's Groceries) which was located at the corner of Allen and Northline in Taylor, Michigan. The Carroll family also supplied coal to the local community. For a short time he was employed by J.J. Curran as a Heavy Equipment operator. He was both a member of the Operating Engineer's Local #324 and the Millwrights Local #1102. In 1955, Russ Carroll & Sons Sand and Top Soil business was established and was a vital part of the Downriver area for 37 years. In 1972, Bill moved his family to Brownstown Township and built a R.V. storage park (Bill's Trailer Storage). The business was sold in 2000. He was a lifelong avid hunter who also enjoyed fishing. His love of cooking earned him the title of "Bill's Grill" and was also affectionately called the "Possum" for his love and ability to sing George Jones songs. Those who knew Bill, would agree he was an extremely hard working man, who had a kind and generous soul. He possessed a great sense of humor and was a gifted story teller ~ a trait that was inherently passed on to his children. The only thing that surpassed his great love for his family was his Greater Love for God. Bill was baptized along with his wife on June 15, 1955. He worshiped along side his family at the Sunset Church of Christ up until his illness prevented him from doing so. He will be laid to rest at the Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, Michigan.
