William Lewis "Crusher" Dempsey

William Lewis “Crusher” Dempsey, age 79 of Monroe, passed away January 11, 2023 at his home.

Born May 12, 1943 in Detroit, Bill was the son of the late Joseph and Ivy (Holland) Dempsey. A 1962 graduate of Monroe High School, he married his sweetheart, Ann Russeau, on June 6, 1964. Bill worked as an Engineer for Detroit Edison’s Monroe Power and Fermi Nuclear Power Plants for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. He also was the President of Wildwood Lakes Golf Course in Wolverine, Michigan.

Bill was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, had been a volunteer for the Monroe Police Department, had been a Union Stewart for Local 223, and had been a Championship Little League Baseball Coach. He was an avid hunter, golfer and card player, but his most treasured times were those spent with his family enjoying good times and good food.

Bill leaves to cherish his memory, Ann, his wife of the past 58 years; children: William (Pamela) Dempsey Jr., Anita (Tom) Hains, Wendy (Randy) Loffer, Victoria (Jody) Taylor, Scott (Tina) Dempsey, and Timothy (Bonnie) Dempsey; grandchildren: Jeff, Lauryn, Nickolas, William, Patrick, Cole, Megan, Dawson, Elijah, Jessica and Timothy; as well as 6 great grandchildren and a sister Mildred Dempsey.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Michael (Dave) and James as well as sister Margaret.
