Walter "Chip" Steffy, III
May 13, 1954 - December 29, 2024
Chip Steffy, a lifelong Monroe resident, passed away on December 29th, 2024, at the age of 70. Born to the late Walter and JoAnn (Schroeder) Steffy, Chip was a devoted family man, outdoors enthusiast, and avid collector.
He is survived by his children, Michael, Joseph (Riley), and the late Paul Steffy; grandchildren, Dayton, Owen, Chloey, and Ellee; siblings, Larry Steffy, Jeri (Lou Dallman) Steffy, Callie (Tom) Potcova, and Christi (Ed) Warner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chip's passions included fishing, camping, boating, and collecting nautical antiques. He was also known for his love of "picking" - searching for hidden treasures and unique items at estate sales, auctions, and flea markets. His friends and family affectionately referred to him as a modern-day "American Picker."
However, Chip's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. He cherished every moment he had with them, whether it was taking them on fishing trips, teaching them how to camp, or simply spending evenings together at home. His love and devotion to his family were unwavering, and he took immense pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow and thrive.
Chip's family will deeply miss his guidance, support, and unconditional love. His memory will live on through the countless memories they shared with him, and the values he instilled in them.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 127 N Monroe St., Monroe, MI 48162, on Saturday, February 1st, 2025. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the service begins at 11:00 am.
Chip's gentle soul, love for his family, and infectious enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
