Vito Gaglio, age 82 of Southgate, MI passed away December 18, 2024. Beloved husband of Mary Gaglio. Cherished father of Rosa Abbulone (Russ Abbulone), Sandy Bommarito (Salvatore Bommarito), Gina Durdubakov, Pia Chasney (Joe Chasney), Lisa Kirk (Jason Kirk), Rosolino Gaglio, and Christina Hayes (Brandon Hayes). Adored grandfather of Pietro Bommarito, Vito Bommarito, Aleksandro Kirk, Samuele Bommarito, Caterina Abbulone, Maria Abbulone, Angelina Gaglio, Maria Kirk, Sophia Kirk, Vito Gaglio, Jack Chasney, Julian Chasney, Martina Durdubokov, Giovanni Gaglio, Jason Kirk, Jacob Kirk, and Theo Hayes. Vito is also survived by Cesare Gaglio, Caterina Vitale (Salvatore Vitale), and Rosolino Gaglio (Vita Gaglio). Vito was preceded in death by his parents Rosa Gaglio and Rosolino Gaglio, his brothers Faro Gaglio (Rose Gaglio), Emanuele Gaglio (Sera Gaglio), and Procopio Gaglio (Rosalia Gaglio) and his sister Giuseppa Bommarito (Salvatore Bommarito).
Born in 1942 in Cinisi, Sicily, Vito cherished his Italian heritage and the close-knit community of his hometown. At 23, he left for America in 1965, driven by determination and dreams of a better future.
Vito began working in construction, where his dedication and strong work ethic stood out. Alongside his brothers, he built a thriving family business rooted in hard work and love earning the respect of their community.
Vito’s proudest legacy was his family. Alongside his beloved wife Mary, he raised seven children, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family. As years went on his family grew to include 17 grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Vito was the founder of the Santa Rosalia Club, an organization dear to his heart. Vito found great joy in bringing people together, making them laugh, and sharing the beauty of his culture.
Vito never lost his love for Italy and made frequent trips back to his home country. His visits brought him immense happiness, allowing him to reconnect with his roots, family, and friends.
With a kind heart, an infectious sense of humor, Vito left an permanent mark on everyone he met. His friendships extended far and wide, and will always be admired for his ability to light up any room he entered. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation for Vito will take place on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 10915 Allen Road, 48101. There will be a sharing service held at 6:00 p.m. that evening at the funeral home, followed by a service performed by the St. Rosalia Club at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will take place the following day, Monday, December 23, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church located at 14101 Superior St, Southgate, MI 48195. In State 9:15 a.m. and Mass at 9:45 a.m. A procession to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery will follow where Vito will be entombed.
