Vincent J. "Jim" Giarmo Sr., 94, of Monroe, MI peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home at 1:25 am on June 23, 2017. Jim was born April 30, 1923 to Antonio and Petrina (Schera) Giarmo. Jim was married to Ann (Gelardi) Giarmo May 3, 1945 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church Dearborn, MI. Together, Jim and Ann were married for 55 years, and lived in the house he built in Frenchtown. Jim was a proud Marine veteran. He served as a Corsair airplane mechanic in the Marine Fighting Squadron (VMF-216) in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired from Ford Motor Company as a skilled tradesmen after 30 years at the Monroe Ford Parts Factory in 1984. Jim was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Monroe where he built the altar and baptismal fountain. He enjoyed woodworking, baking bread, summer cookouts at the "lot", fishing, and travelling. He loved to share stories of past times which often involved his many pranks and adventures. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the gold medal in the Midwest Regional Senior Olympics for swimming the fastest mile at age 72. Jim was a friend to all that knew him. He will be missed. Jim is survived by his children: Vincent J. "Jim" Giarmo Jr., Cecelia A. (Terrence) McGreevy, Steven A. "Max" Giarmo; grandchildren: Michelene and Nathan (Emily) McGreevy, Vincent and Benjamin (Abbie) Giarmo; great-grandson Nicholas Giarmo; and sister, Anna (Leonard) Furnari. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Ann, brothers: Joseph, Samuel, John, Frank, William and his sister Marion (Stephen) Costello.
