Vera Gertrude Sullivan. Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada on April 15, 1923 to William David and Mary Elizabeth (Morrison) MacNamara (both now deceased). The family moved to Wyandotte Michigan in 1924 where her brother Earl James McNamara was born in 1925. Vera graduated from St Patrick's High School in Wyandotte, then attended Marygrove College and was married to William (Bill) John Sullivan on June 19,1943 who served in the Us Army occupations of Europe and Japan. Vera joined him when later stationed in San Luis Obispo, California. Bill was longtime owner of Lynch & Sullivan furniture and later served as Mayor of Wyandotte and Wayne County Commissioner before his retirement. Vera traveled with Bill in the 60s to their sister city Komaki, Japan representing Wyandotte. Vera was a longstanding member of the Michigan State Garden Society serving as board member and president of the organization. In 1976 Vera helped to organize and create the statewide Michigan State University Extension program and served as a long time horticulturist, consultant and instructor for the Master Gardener Program of Wayne County at their offices in Wayne Michigan. Vera was preceded in death by her husband William J Sullivan and her brother Earl (Onah) McNamara. She is survived by the children of Earl and Onah: Nephews Patrick (Carolyn) in Ann Arbor, Timothy, Terrence both of Malibu, Susan (widow of nephew Kevin deceased) in Trenton, niece Margaret Cox in Richmond Virginia and nephew Brian who lives in Los Angeles in addition to 5 grand nieces, 3 grand nephews, 6 great-grand nieces and nephews. On her husband's side she is survived by children of Bill's three deceased sisters. Marylou Mahalak , Suzanne McCandless, Therese Hoover the daughters of Bill's sister Lucille (Beatty) , Tom Pemberton (Linda) the son of his sister Madeleine (Pemberton) , and Kay Roumell (spouse Chuck) and Maureen (Jerry) Keast , daughters of his sister Dorothy (Cassidy) in addition to 5 grand nieces, 8 grand nephews and 17 great-grand nieces and nephews.
