Thomas Lee Barron, age 77 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 in his home after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born February 8, 1945 in Monroe, Tom was the son of Lavern and Helen (Calkins) Barron. A 1963 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, he then went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Ferris State University. While at Ferris Tom was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He married Judy Oberlieter on March 26, 1971. In 1973 he started a family owned and operated business, A-1 Auto Center at 504 S. Monroe St. and later expanded to a second location at the corner of Telegraph Road and M-50. In 2016 Tom retired from the business which is now owned by his daughter, Brandi. Tom concurrently enjoyed a 25-year career with the City of Monroe Fire Department, retiring from the department with a rank of Captain in 2002. Tom married the love of his life Debbie Lindquist on October 17, 1992. Tom and Debbie enjoyed traveling together, challenging games of couples golf, taking their family on vacations in Northern Michigan, and spending time fishing and game nights at their cottage. His most treasured times were those spent with his loved ones, enjoying a family tradition of a spirited game of euchre (in which he usually won).

Tom was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; was an avid golfer and member at Green Meadows Golf Course; member of the Monroe Club and enjoyed regular lunch gatherings with his fellow St. John Catholic School classmates from 1963.

Tom leaves to cherish his memory, Debbie, his wife of the past 30 years; children: Brandi Barron, Matthew (Connie) Barron, Erik Barko, Amy (Jerin Williams) Barko, Kaitlyn (Joshua Owens) Barko, and Cameron (Amber) Barron; 9 grandchildren: Brynn, Brooke, Gage, Braxton, Parker, Arya, Sawyer, Emma and Everett; as well as 8 siblings: Peter (Nancy) Barron, Pam Barron, Teresa (Jim) Thompson, Georgianna Henderson, Jorda (Don) Monday, Joseph (Becky) Barron, Carol (Gary) Pierce and Cary (Jill) Barron. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions in honor of Tom may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at give.michaeljfox.org.
