Susan Ann Zambo

Susan Ann “Sue” Zambo passed away on May 17, 2024, in Riverview, Michigan after a prolonged illness, surrounded by the love of her family. Born to Walter and Helen Szostek on April 2, 1950, Sue was only 74 years old.

Sue grew up in the Downriver area with her siblings, WalterSzostek, Jr., Kenneth Szostek, Sr. and Marie Zambo.

She first met her husband, Thomas “Tom” Zambo, as a middle school aged child when they both lived in Lincoln Park. They began dating in high school in 1966 after both of their families had relocated to Trenton. They were married in October 1968.

Sue’s pride and joy was the family she and Tom created together. They raised their three daughters in Woodhaven: Kimberly Craft, Michelle DuChene, and Andrea Perkins. They also put them through school, which was very important to Sue. Sue’s daughters and their husbands, Jason Craft, David DuChene, and Jason Perkins gave her seven grandchildren: Shane Perkins (19), Alyssa DuChene (18), Kaitlyn DuChene (16), Ethan Craft (15), Brooke Perkins (15), Keira DuChene (15), and Owen Craft (13) who brought out her inner child and kept her going over the past several years, no matter how sick or fatigued she was considering her multiple chronic medical conditions. She could often be found cheering for them at events such as dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, theatre performances, and sports games of all sorts. She made special memories with each of her children and grandchildren, and created traditions that will continue in her memory. Sue also cherished extended family, all she considered friends, and her beloved dog, Bella.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents (Walter and Helen Szostek), parents-in-law (George and Irma Zambo), and brother-in-law (Timothy Zambo). She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and their children. During her lifetime, Sue was a source of companionship and strength for all she loved. Her loved ones will undoubtedly feel her presence despite her physical absence as she continues loving them from above.

The service to honor and celebrate Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Woods, 21892 Gudith Rd., Woodhaven. Following the service, a remembrance luncheon will be held at Cooke Community Center, 14100 Navarre St., Gibraltar.
