Stephen (Steve) Henry Sarnacki, 95, of Trenton, MI, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 19, 2022. Steve was born in Wyandotte, MI on September 6,1926 to Ignatius and Frances (Siemion) Sarnacki. He was married to Reba (Pagan) Sarnacki for 65 years. Together they had seven loving children. Steve was also the beloved “Papa” to nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Steve graduated from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School and then served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army in 1945-1946 where he earned several medals and commendations. He later retired from Wyandotte Chemicals Club where he worked as manager and bowling equipment mechanic. An accomplished athlete, Steve especially excelled in fast-pitch softball and bowling. His bowling accomplishments included bowling a 299 game. He pitched for the U.S. Army team as well as played for a semi-professional softball team. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the 1946 Pacific Army Inter Command Championship in Oahu, Hawaii. Steve supported and belonged to several benevolent organizations including St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and more locally, “Club 30” where he served as president and spent much of his time, talent, and treasure to benefit underserved youth. Our Dad was a gentle soul and a bright light to his family and everyone he encountered. He loved the Lord and his family above all else. We all have fond memories of sitting on the front porch swing with Dad listening to Ernie Harwell announce the Tigers games and eating peanuts in the shell. Dad always had a playful sense of humor, a positive attitude, and a welcoming smile for all. He loved making people laugh, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, lottery tickets, and all things Polish. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ignatius and Frances, brothers Casimer and Stanley, sisters Helen and Henrietta, and son Jeff (Juliet). Steve is survived by his wife Reba and their children Kathie Milewski, Mark (Teresa), Brian, Stephen (Diane), Gregory (Vivian), and Janet Beining (Jim), grandchildren Stephanie, Lauren, Makelle, Derek, Paige, Jarek, Rachel, James, and Melissa, and great-grandchildren Emma and Nora Kleinhenz, Sierra Sobus, and Thomas and Eli Jones. We are especially grateful to the people at Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. https://www.stjude.org
