Stephen Partyka, 63, of Taylor, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, after succumbing to a seven-year battle with colon cancer.
Stephen was born on June 9, 1959, to Frank and Jennie (Koziel) Partyka in Detroit and was the youngest of three. He attended both St. Hedwig and Holy Redeemer High Schools in Detroit, graduating from Holy Redeemer in 1977. Steve was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams in high school. He remained active playing softball and golf throughout his life.
After graduating, Steve had multiple jobs including stints at Olympia and Joe Louis Arena before becoming a truck driver in 1995. He would continue driving for the rest of his life even after his diagnosis.
Steve met his wife, Sandra L. Szelag, while attending high school together. They began dating after graduation when he stood up with her in her brother James’ wedding. Steve and Sandy were married on September 27, 1986, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Detroit and went on to have three boys, Joseph, David, and Nicholas.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, smoking his world-famous ribs, all while enjoying a cold beer. He was a lifelong fan of Detroit sports and complained about them regularly. Steve was entertaining to say the least and he will be remembered for his detailed, outrageous stories that were always masterfully delivered. He was far from shy and always
voiced his opinion, whether you asked him for it or not.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Francis, and Jennie Partyka. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his son Joseph (Kelsey), David (Chelsea), Nicholas (Arielle), granddaughters Morgan and Peyton, brother Matthew (Deborah) Partyka, sister Mary (Thomas) Kendziorski, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at Martenson Funeral Home 10915 Allen Road, Allen Park on Wednesday, May 3rd from Noon until 7 pm.
