Stephen James Engle

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of Stephen James Engle, age 64 of Grosse Ile, MI. While surrounded by love, he made it home safely to our Lord on January 30, 2025 after losing a battle to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

He is known for his charming personality, a legendary quick wit, and a master of a perfectly timed comeback, but most of all, an all-around stand-up man!

Steve spent the majority of his career in the Ford Sales Industry where he became an important and reliable fixture in his community; he was loved by his customers and colleagues throughout the years.

He enjoyed the wild life of his neighborhood, antiquing, gardening, and fine dining & drinking with family & friends.

Steve is married to the love of his life and beloved wife Julie Engle of 22 years. He is the dearest brother of Diane (Gregg) Grothjan and brother-in-law of Jeffrey (Dawndie) Butkowski and Lisa (Billy) Vargo. Steve leaves behind a host of nieces (great niece), nephews, cousins and Mother-in-Law Margarite Butkowski. He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Mary Engle.
