Shirley Mary Frey

May 17, 1936 – July 9th, 2023: She passed away peacefully in Riverside, California.

Shirley, the fifth of nine children, was born May 17, 1936 in Cold Lake, Canada. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe, Michigan in June of 1954. She met Raymond Frey, her husband, at Houghton Lake and they married on October 5, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1962 with a degree in Education. She taught for 30 plus years. She started her teaching career at Jefferson Elementary in Monroe, then went to St. Mary’s and taught 3rd grade. She ended her teaching career teaching at Richmond Heights Elementary School in Orlando, Florida. In her retirement, she split her time between Florida and Michigan and then settled in California in the early 2000’s. She had a passion for teaching reading to kids and volunteered her time in California at a middle school where she received volunteer of the year in Riverside Unified School District. Her five children, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren survive her in death.
