Sheila Schlaf

Our beloved Sheila Marie Schlaf, at the age of 65, sadly passed away on August 12th, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.

On March 26th, 1958 her father, Dewayne Schlaf, welcomed her into this world in Detroit Michigan.

Sheila was a wonderful lady who was always there when we needed her. She was selfless, and beautiful inside and out! She always put everyone before herself, even if it meant her going without. She had a heart of pure gold! She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog Dexter. She was always an animal lover, she dreamed of someday owning a farm to have an abundance of animals. She loved to plant her flowers every single year and sit outside all summer to watch them grow and thrive. She wrote poetry often to express herself, her feelings, and to tell the story of her life. Below is a poem she wrote about her childhood,

"Come to Me with Open Arms"

"Left out by a Detroit alley, I always wondered why,

Thank God my aunt heard me cry

Under a blanket, smothering, gasping for air,

My mother took off and left me there

Only 3 months old,

This is the story I was told

My aunt came outside and brought me in,

For a new life for me began

With my beloved grandma I lived until I was 10, then God called her home,

What an empty feeling I had, I was now without her, once again all alone

I cried many tears,

Unable to face my fears

Inside myself I went, hiding from the world,

Who was I, a lost little girl

My grandma was poor,

To feed us she ran up a tab at the corner store

She had eight children of her own,

All of them moved out and were grown

Never take anything for granted, it could change tomorrow,

Turning much happiness instantly into pain and sorrow

Just always remember how bad things may seem to live, love, and laugh often,

A bitter heart needs to be softened

You only have one life to live,

Instead of receiving, to your fullest, always give"

She was the beloved wife of Scott Thompson; loving mother of Teresa Macosko (Schlaf) and Jennifer (Dustin) Mowinski (Thompson); caring grandmother to Cameron Macosko, Dana Macosko, Brandon Macosko, Dustin Mowinski Jr. and Andrew Mowinski; glamorous great-grandmother to Oliver Scheuermann.

She was also survived by her sister, and best friend, Carolyn (Thomas) Lingenfelter (Stamper)
