Severino "Joe" Castagna

Severino "Joe" Castagna age 101 of Brownstown, MI, formerly of Allen Park, MI passed away Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at Beaumont Hospital – Trenton while under hospice care. Preceded in death by his loving wife Marion of 38 years and sisters Edith and Anna. Survivors include: son, James (Marie) Castagna and daughter, Virginia (the late Raymond) Velasco. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, Charlene (Casey) Keysor, Jennifer (Tom) Nowicki, Mark Castagna, Karen (Joe) Mullen, Michael Velasco and Lisa Velasco (Jonathan Serna) and 5 great-grandchildren, Callie, Cadin, Clayton and Caleb Keysor and Annie Mullen and several nieces and a nephew. Severino was born in Clinton, Indiana to James and Mary Castagna. He served in World War II in the Coast Guard, eventually making his home in Allen Park, MI for 67 years. He was a pipefitter (plumber) working at Parke Davis in Detroit, MI (later, Warner Lambert) for 31 years. He was an avid sports fan and loved playing golf. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will truly be missed by all. May he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Beaumont Hospice or The American Heart Association. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 from 2-3pm for family and 3-9pm for family and friends at The Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 10915 Allen Road, Allen Park MI 48101. A short celebration of life will be held at The Martenson Funeral Home at 10 :00 am on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018. Afterwards a short service will take place at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery Chapel located at 18303 Allen Road, Brownstown, MI 48193. Luncheon will be held at his favorite restaurant – Pia's Ristorante Italiano, located at 21142 Ecorse Road, Taylor, MI 48180 following the service.
