Loving Mom and Grandma
Sally Jean Bobruk, age 79, February 6, 2024 of Taylor. Life-long love of Buddy. Loving Mother of Brian, Jill (Chris) Watters and Duane. Dearest Grandma of Ryan. Donations in memory of Sally may be made directly to the family or to the donor’s charity of choice.
Sally kept herself busy. Her favorite time of year was the spring/summer flower season. She always knew which flowers she wanted to plant, what nursery carried what flower she was looking for and would buy flats of flowers. She spent hours planting the flowers and has now taught her son Duane how to care for them properly to ensure they continue to grow. Sally had the greenest thumb ever. At one point she had over 80 indoor plants. Well, some died because, well those kids overwatered them……not a good day for us!
She has multiple rose bushes in her front yard that will continue to bloom and her perennial plants and flowers are along the side of the house so when she looked out the kitchen window she could see her flowers.
She has a small dog, Li’l Bit who sat in the recliner with her and leaned on the arm so he could look out the front door window and watch the activity. Sally would share bits of her snacks with Li’l Bit and he would usually patiently wait for a dropped piece, but sometimes she would tease him and make him wait a bit longer, then he would give a little growl and mom would laugh at him.
When her kids were younger, she would pack our school lunches and I mean pack them. A sandwich, sandwich bag full of chips, a piece of fruit, a Little Debbie snack cake, a Hunt’s snack pack pudding and a spoon, sometimes a cup of Kool-aid or the 10 cents for a milk from the cafeteria. If we wanted to purchase our lunch from the cafeteria we had to circle it on the lunch calendar with our name so she would give us the money.
Sally was always attending events for her kids and grandson. A lot of baseball games, boy scouts, girl scouts, school plays, whatever the event was she attended. Sally also hand sewed a lot of clothing when the kids were younger. She learned her sewing skills from her grandmother, who was a seamstress.
Her favorite sport is baseball. She is a hard core Detroit Tigers fan from when she was a youngster. Her father introduced her to the Tigers. Sally also attended the Junior League World Series games every year except the 2023 season as it was massively crowded and would not be able to actually see the field that well. Well, thanks to ESPN+ she could watch all of the games right from her recliner in the living! She loved it.
Sally attended St. Francis Xavier High School while her sister attended the local public school. Her parents were open to the choices their children made. Sally, her mother and sister had tea everyday with special teacups that her mother purchased when she could. The cups and saucers do not match, but they enjoyed tea time.
Sally is the last member of her family to make this final journey of life. Sadly her mother passed when she was nineteen years old, several months after she had Brian. Her parents Russell and Nina Hallenbeck and her sister Catherine Stenger and Sally’s two infant sons had previously departed.
Sally is survived by her children, Brian, Jill and Duane, grandson Ryan and her nephews Gary, Ronnie, Michael and Robbie Fackender.
