Ronnie Wayne Liford

Ronnie Wayne Liford, age 72, of Newport, MI died on March 15, 2016 after a bravely fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Born May 29, 1943 in Monroe, Ronnie was the son of Hubert and Ellen (Owens) Liford. He faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force. Ronnie then worked for the railroad as a Welding Foreman, retiring in 1984 Ronnie is survived by his wife, Sherry Thorn, and her two sons, Terry Thorn, and Kelly Thorn (Rainey); his first wife, Elfriede Liford and their two daughters, Sherri Bramlett (Steve), and Terri Sue Monark (Michael); brothers, Donald Liford (Joan) of Dundee, MI, Hubert Liford (Elouise), Danny Liford (Belinda); sisters, Sharlene Olson, and Sue Stump (Jim) all of Monroe, MI. and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Ronnie was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Ellen, three brothers: Herbert Liford, Hershel Liford and Gary Liford; as well as four sisters: Clara Walczesky, Bernice Thomas, Barbara Starr and Shirely Perea. Ronnie enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. Over the years his interests included the military/WWII, 50s/60s music, and the Detroit Red Wings. He had a talent for granting nicknames that stuck and telling jokes. Ronnie was also known for being somewhat of a history buff. A Celebration of Ronnie's Life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes 203 E. Elm Avenue. Friends may gather from 1pm until a memorial service at 4pm. Military Honors by the VFW Post 1138 Monroe followed by a service officiated by Rev. Guy Ervin of Monroe Christian Baptist Church.
