Ronald L. Stokes, age 66 of Monroe, formerly of Fremont, Ohio passed away peacefully at University of Michigan Hospital following and extended illness at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, on August 10th 2015. He was born February 5th 1949 in Fremont, Ohio to Robert L. Stokes and Edna Lucille (Swerlein) Stokes (Lucy Johnson). He graduated from Ross High School in 1967, entered the US Navy in 1968 and served until 1973 as an E4 Gunners Mate and Ordinance Mechanic. He was a decorated Viet Nam War Veteran. He worked as a Proposal Robotics Engineer for DeVilbiss, Sames, Kawasaki and retired from ABB. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion and also enjoyed memberships in the Moose, Eagles and was Past Commodore of Monroe Boat Club, member of Blue Gavel and Past Commodore of AYC. He loved being on the lake in his boat and was looking forward to attending car shows with his recently purchased Corvette. He was pre-deceased by both parents, grandparents and brother Robert Tyler Stokes. In addition to his wife Monica(Mikki Parsons)Stokes he leaves his siblings Paula Laney of Georgia., Barbara(Rod)Burkett, Randy(Crystal) Johnson and Terry(Mary)Johnson all of Fremont, Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. As per his wishes, there will be no viewing or services. Cremation to be handled by Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Monroe. A Celebration of Life will be hosted by the Blue Gavel at the Monroe Boat Club on Sunday August 30, 2015 from 1pm until 4pm. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 1138, Monroe at 2pm.
