Robert (“Bob”) Chowen, 64, of Troy, MI, passed away on November 23, 2022.
Bob was born on May 9, 1958 to Richard and Virginia Chowen in Dearborn, MI. After graduating from Allen Park High School in 1976, he went on to study psychology at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
After graduation, he landed his first job as a paint instructor with Motech. In 1975, he met Michelle, and they wed in 1984, going on to have two children, Branden and Courtney.
Bob was known for his fun, kind, and selfless personality that was adaptable to any situation. He quickly made friends wherever he went because he was not only intimidatingly intelligent, but he was always willing to listen to anything that anyone had to say. Because of his background in so many different hobbies, he was able to add value to virtually any conversation, which helped endear him to so many different people over the years.
Bob was able to do so much for so many people, but none more so than his family. He would never think twice about helping them in any way he could, be it financially, with his time, or with advice. He loved his family passionately and unequivocally. The real mark of who he was as a human being, though, was that no matter what he did for someone else, he never did it for the recognition, but rather because he could, and it was the right thing to do.
Along with his passion for his family, Bob was also a lifelong bicycle and classic car enthusiast. In his free time, he could often be found riding – or fixing – one of his many bikes or improving one of his vehicles when he wasn’t watching sports, home remodeling shows, or Mecum Auto Auctions on TV.
Anyone who knew Bob would agree that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; son and daughter-in-law, Branden and Bridgette; daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Michael; sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Greg; granddaughter, Abigail, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws who were loved dearly.
Robert’s family will be celebrating his life at the Martenson Funeral Home in Allen Park, MI from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM on both Thursday, December 1st and Friday, December 2nd. There is a private viewing for family from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 1st. There will be no formal service.
