In Memoriam: Robert Patrick Kane, Sr. 1920-2017 Robert P. Kane, the son of Wilfred (Pat) Kane, Sr. and Mary Frances Ososkie Kane died peacefully in Trenton, Michigan on May 26th. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Mohlmann Brush Kane, and their son Robert Patrick Kane, Jr. His brothers Wilfred Kane, Jr. (Bill) and Dennis Kane also pre-deceased him. His former sister in law, Marie Elaine Kane (Dennis) of Massachusetts, died the same week. Robert's daughter in law Darlene, and son Michael Bradley Kane, were instrumental in the care of not only Robert, but Virginia, for many years on a full time basis. Robert Sr. is survived by sons Timothy (and partner Steve Sullivan) and son Thomas, known as Todd Kane. The entire Downriver Kane family participated in the care of the elder Kanes' along with neighbor Dee Demgen. Originally from Carelton and Wyandotte, the Kane family has been in this area since the 1840's. In later years Robert and Virginia lived in Trenton and Woodhaven. Mr. Kane worked for Sharples/Pennsalt/Pennwalt/Alf Atochem, a French Company, since before WW II. He had a retirement of 26 years, visiting the Trenton Library each week of that 26 years. One of Robert's relations built what is now the oldest surviving house in Monroe, Michigan. His family knew Gen. George Custer, where Robert's family, in the 1840's, lived in a log cabin in Monroe. Family farms were purchased by Henry Ford, Sr. for the River Rouge Plant. Mr. Ford then employed them, one being his driver. Robert graduated from St. Patrick Church, Wyandotte in 1938. He served in the army in North Africa and Italy, leaving from the Oak Street Train Station, Wyandotte, that still stands. He graduated from Notre Dame University, the first in his family to attend college. He was the oldest and longest member of the Knights of Columbus #1802. He leaves his sister in law Anita Dolce Kane (Bill), sister Mary Anne Hudge (Ed), brothers Michael (Betty) and Brian (Christine) Kane. He has 27 nieces and nephews from Massachusetts to California, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
