Robert J. Murray, MD Passed away peacefully at his home May 13th 2016. His healing hands and caring heart touched so many far and wide St.Peter welcomed him with open arms. Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather. Dr. Murray is predeceased in death by his wife, Helen (2005) and sister Adele Murray. He is survived by his children, Michael J. Murray, MD (Valerie), Patrick C. Murray, MD (Eveline), Susan A. Murray, Mary Jane Magalotti (David), Martha McLaughlin (Daniel), Jennifer Kane (Bernard), Anne Hildestad (Bradley). 14 Grandchildren, 3 great grand-children. Brother of William R. Murray, Priscilla Gladu and Mary Margaret Liberty, Dr. Murray was born in Ottawa, Ontario where he graduated from University of Ottawa Medical School. In 1955 he came to the United States to do his Residency in Family Medicine. His plan was to stay only a couple of years but he fell in love with the downriver community. Dr. Murray practiced medicine in Trenton on West Road for over 50 years. Throughout the decades he was able to care for and be loved by many generations of patients. He was one of three founding physicians at Seaway PCHA (now known as Beaumont of Trenton) where he was on staff for over 50 years along with Wyandotte Hospital. Medicine continued to be one of his passions even after retirement when he began his volunteer work at two clinics for the working uninsured. Dr. Murray loved many things about the Downriver community including the great outdoors where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He quickly became involved with the sports teams at Trenton High School and established lifelong friendships with teachers, coaches and student athletes. It became a tradition to see Dr. Murray on the sidelines or on the bench at sporting events. As a natural athlete and physician this opportunity to participate in this part of his community was a perfect fit. Although a busy practitioner Dr. Murray always made time to be a generous husband and father to 7 children. Dr. Murray never missed a family dinner because he realized and modeled the importance of family to his children. His doors were always open to the neighborhood, and it was not unusual to see children skating on the side lot; swimming in the pool; or getting stitches on the kitchen table. This loving and caring father and physician will be deeply missed by his family and his community . Visitation Sunday 1 – 8 pm at The Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd., Trenton. Dr. Murray will lie in state on Monday at 10:30 am until time of Funeral Liturgy at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Trenton. Private Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
