Robert G. Mr. Kunkle

Kunkle, Robert G. Formerly of Trenton, MI. Died March 25, 2011. Bob was born Sept. 22, 1921 to Glenn and Mabel Kunkle in Export, PA. He grew up in Westmoreland County, PA and attended Carnegie Mellon Institute prior to his service in the Navy during WWII. During his service he was selected to attend the University of Kansas as part of a program to fulfill the need for engineers in the Navy. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1947. Following his graduation he came to Detroit for employment at the Detroit Edison Co from which he retired in 1986 after 38 years of service. In Detroit he met his future wife Mary Patricia Lewis who preceded him in death in 2006 after 56 years of marriage. Bob was also preceded in death by his brother Russell Kunkle and sister’s-in-law Donna and Helen Kunkle. He is survived by his children; daughter Becky Charkowski and grandchildren Cori and Ryan (Amanda) Charkowski and great granddaughter Ashlynn; son Timothy (Mary Claire) Kunkle; daughter Janice (Mark) and grandchildren Tim, Ellen, Jennifer and Jessica Mitchell; daughter Martha (Fred) Burkhardt and grandsons Steven (Laurie) and David Burkhardt. He is also survived by his brother Dale Kunkle and sister Jane Kunkle as well as nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions to honor Bob's life may be made to the Robert and Mary Kunkle Scholarship Fund at Trenton High School.
