He grew up on his parents’ farm in South Rockwood, attended St. Mary’s School in Rockwood and graduated from Airport High School, Carleton, in 1955. Bob worked at Coca Cola, Firestone, and Dodge and Dodge before opening Hollister Hardware in Rockwood in 1971. While at the store he was known as Dr. Bob, Doctor of Hardwareology. He worked in the store until its closing in 1996. After the closing, he worked several places before retiring from Midway Products in Monroe in 2002. Bob was involved in several community groups, Rotary; Huron River Yellow Jackets Little League, and served as president of the PTO at Ritter Elementary where his children attended. He was a charter member of both the Monroe Floral Harmonizers and the Huron Valley Men’s Chorus. In 1993 he married Margaret (Midge) Spence Goehmann. Bob and Midge were members of the Monroe Floral Wings, the local chapter of Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where they served in many capacities. He served as Chapter Director for two years. Bob enjoyed camping and had many travel adventures with family and friends throughout the USA and Canada. In 2013 Bob and Midge sold their home in Brownstown and became snowbirds. They split their time between Lake Wales, Florida and Whitehouse, Ohio. After retiring he spent hours doing woodworking and drew pleasure in sharing his finished products with friends and family; and on several occasions complete strangers he met who would benefit from a cane that he had made. At the time of Bob’s death he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton, Michigan where, at one time, he was a member of both the Worship and Concert Choirs. Bob had fantastic sense of humor, which sometimes bordered on mischievousness, and an overflowing generous heart. He was always looking for ways to help people. Bob loved the Lord and was a walking witness of his faith. He may not have been able to quote the Scriptures but he believed and trusted his Heavenly Father and was ready to meet Him. He would openly talk about God and how He had got him through some difficult times in his life. Robert was preceded in death by: his Parents, two infant brothers, Clarence, Jr. and Wallace, and brother-in-law Chuck Beaudrie. Left to cherish and honor his memory are: Margaret (wife); Children – Eric (Kathleen) Hollister of Huron Township, Adam (Wendy) Hollister of Carleton, Dorcas (Steve) Spurlock of South Rockwood, Elizabeth Blackwell Presley of Detroit; Stepchildren - Jennifer (Bill) Hale of Zionsville, IN, and Jeffrey (Kristi) Goehmann of Deerfield; Thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandson; Brother Donald (Elaine) Hollister of Carleton and Sister Darlene Beaudrie of South Rockwood. Along with all his family and many friends he will be missed by Ami Lu his little fur girl who adored him and gave him fourteen years of happiness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Robert to St. Paul Lutheran Church Music and Caring Ministries. To those attending visitation and/or services at the funeral home for a loved one, we adhere to CDC and State of Michigan DHHS guidelines. There are limitations on number of person(s) in the chapel that will be enforced. Thank you for understanding.
