Richard (Dick) Sietz, 79, died on February 17, 2021, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace (Perna) of 54 years, beloved children Whitney Robertson and Bradley (Carina), cherished grandchildren, Henry and Hunter Robertson and Franklin and Mallory Sietz; one sister Mary Ann (Bill) Emerson and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Sietz. Dick graduated from MSU and immediately began his long and illustrious career as a math teacher at Southgate (Anderson) High School. While teaching, he coached football under Bob Middlestat for 10 years having two 9-0 seasons. His education continued with a Master’s degree at EMU and Math Specialist degree from WSU. He was one of the first instructors when WCCCD opened its campus Downriver where he distinguished himself as a math teacher that made math fun and enjoyable. His enthusiasm for teaching lasted for 50 years. His love of math was shared by his colleagues at DACTM (Detroit Area Council of Teacher of Mathematics) where he was president and then editor of the Factorial. Dick will be remembered for always having a smile on his face and his genuine interest he took in every friend and family member.
