Richard Filipp

“Dick”, age 97, of Trenton, Michigan, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alois Filipp and Rose Domzalski, and by his sister, Mildred Noland. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Helen Filipp, and children Laura, Karen (Gregg), Mark (Kim), Sandra, and Richard (Araceli), 8 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served until honorably discharged in 1946. He and Helen were married in 1949. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Michigan State University in 1957. In 1958, he began a career in finance at McLouth Steel in Detroit, MI. He earned a Master’s Degree in Business in 1962 from University of Detroit. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Finance from Dartmouth College in 1967. He became Treasurer of McLouth Steel, a position he held until leaving in 1977. He then began a second career in banking at Comerica Bank, in Detroit. He served as Vice President there until he retired. During his tenure at Comerica, he was honored with an award for outstanding achievement. He was active in the National Credit Association until he retired. In retirement, he had time to pursue his passion, golf. He was an excellent golfer and played several times a week until he turned 90. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Helen. He served on the St. Timothy’s Catholic Church Parish Council and was a lector there for over 50 years. He was active in the Trenton Lions Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, West Rd, Trenton. The family will receive friends at The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd, Trenton, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 12. Internment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
