Born in Carleton, Raymond was the son of Melvin and Helen (Olah) Myers. A graduate of Airport High School, he faithfully served our country in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. He married his love of almost 70 years, Helen Sledge, on September 13, 1951. Raymond worked for Ford Motor Company in Monroe for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. Raymond was a member of the South Rockwood United Methodist Church, Carleton VFW, the Monroe Moose, UAW Local 723, Rockwood Historical Society and the Berlin Township Senior Citizens. He also was a past member of the South Rockwood Village Council and Volunteer Fire Department. One of the original founders of the South Rockwood little league program, Raymond and his father were the architects of it’s first baseball diamond, with Raymond creating the second diamond on his own. He was instrumental in getting a team into the Monroe County Fair Tournament. Coach to many players, he made sure they received equal playing time on the field. Enjoying softball himself into his 50’s and continuing to bowl in his mid 70’s, Raymond was always very active. Watching the Detroit Tigers was fun for him. Also, with his wife he enjoyed taking trips in their retirement years. Each Spring a vegetable garden was lovingly grown, always with help from his grandchildren. Raymond left a wonderful legacy of service and love. Raymond leaves to cherish his memory, Helen, his wife of the past 69 years; a son Raymond (Karen) Myers; 2 grandchildren: Shannon (Matthew) Clum and Shawn Myers; two great grandchildren: Capri Clum and Indie Clum; as well as 2 siblings: Geraldine (Fred) Thorn and Marlene Halye. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents and 2 siblings: Bernita Myers and Virginia Kwiatkowski. Memorial contributions in honor of Raymond may be made to the South Rockwood United Methodist Church or Elara Caring Hospice.
