Phyllis A. Jones

Phyllis A. Jones was born February 22, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Detroit schools and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1943. She went on to earn a Nursing degree from Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. In 1952 Phyllis married William J. Jones M.D. (deceased 1998) and lived in Allen Park, Michigan where they raised their children. Phyllis was very active with The Allen Park Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities; one of her favorites was that of camp nurse. Phyllis devoted many volunteer hours of educational outreach for The Michigan Medical Society where she served as president for several years. She also volunteered for many years for The National Kidney Foundations, where her husband, Dr. Jones, served as as president. Crystal Lake near Frankfort, MI. was a summer retreat for the family and later became a summer home for Phyllis where she enjoyed the sun and changing colors of the lake. World travel was another one of Phyllis' passions. She traveled with sisters, friends and various groups to the far reaches including Nepal and the Holy Land as a couple of the places that were special. Phyllis was a loving mother and wife. Taking care of her family was her top priority and she will be eternally remembered with much love and gratitude. Phyllis passed away on March 13, 2016 in Dearborn, MI. She is survived by her children Robert Jones (Joy Lynn), Dr. Barbara Connor (Doug Wood), and Donald; the daughter in-law of her late son David Jones (Kathy) and her step-son Richard Jones (Mary Ann); her grandchildren Robert (Lauren), Ryan (Audrey), Lindsey, Jeffrey, Adam, Sean (Barbara), Lisa (Nate), David Michael (Uma) and Karey; her great grandchildren Molly, Sophia, Valentino, Michaela, Kaylie, Lucas, Amelia, Brinley, Rhiannon, Robby, Sean Jr. and Skylar; and her three sisters Fay Schuman (Marvin), Beverly Howell and Ardith Thibodeau. Visitation is Wednesday, March 16th, from 5 – 7:30 pm at The Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd. (Corner of Goddard). Phyllis will lie in state onThursday, March 17th at 10:30 am at Allen Park Presbyterian Church, 7101 Park Ave., Allen Park until time of her service at 11 am. She will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
