Philip Charles LaBelle, 93, of Brownstown , Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Visitation will take place at Martenson Funeral Home, 3200 West Road, Trenton, Michigan, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 4:00-8:00 pm.
Philip will lie in state Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 3:00-3:30 at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church, 21892 Gudith Road, Woodhaven, Michigan. A Mass of Resurrection will take place on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 3:30 pm at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church.
Philip was born January 11, 1931, the son of Wellington Samuel and Violet (Nussel) LaBelle in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan. He served as a Merchant Mariner from 1946-1947, and then one year of active duty in the U.S. Navy, aboard the submarine U.S.S. Trumpetfish as a Fireman Apprentice followed by six years in the Naval Reserve.
He married Gloriann Gratiot on October 13, 1951, at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor, Michigan. They enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Philip was a dedicated family man, as well as a man of great integrity and kindness. He worked for DuPont Company in Ecorse, Michigan, for 14 years and retired from Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Stamping Plant after 25 years in
manufacturing engineering. After retirement, Philip and his wife wintered at their vacation home in Ruskin, Florida.
Philip was a member of Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church in Woodhaven. He served the Township of Brownstown as a Volunteer Firefighter, Constable, and Township Trustee.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and especially trapshooting. He was the champion in the 2012 Michigan State Shoot in the Senior Veteran event. He was a life member of the Brest Bay Sportsman Club and the National Rifle Association.
Those left to cherish Philip’s memory are his sons Mark (Beth) LaBelle, Daniel (Lori) LaBelle, daughters Pamela Rausch, Margaret “Peggy” (Stanton) Ernest, and Michele (Harry) Monday; seventeen grandchildren Faith (Dale) Smith, Gregory (Sarah) LaBelle, Samantha (Jeff) LaBelle, Philip (Karina) LaBelle, Melissa (Aaron) Vogler, Michael (Meaghan) LaBelle, Charles Sherry,
Timothy Sherry, Lily LaBelle, Kyle (Jennifer) Millns, Eric (Nicole) Millns, Anna (Matthew) Conner, Vanessa (Daniel) Fremer, Lea (Ankit Desai) Monday, Ian Monday; eighteen great grandchildren Kiara (Nate) Isom, Koren and Krista Winter, Gabriel LaBelle, Tiffany and Philip LaBelle, Bella and Josephine Morris, James and Brynn LaBelle, Anastasia and Wyatt Vogler, Addison and Archer LaBelle, Celina and Dominic Fremer, and Vani and Vir Desai; and two great-great granddaughters Lorelai and Liberty Isom.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloriann; son Michael Thomas LaBelle, granddaughter Danielle Morris, and grandson Jacob Henry Rausch, and brothers Jack and Samuel LaBelle.
If desired, memorial donations in Philip’s memory may be directed to Hospice of Michigan at hom.org . An inurnment ceremony will take place at a later date at Our Lade of Hope Cemetery, Brownstown, Michigan.
