Patricia J. Bennett

Patricia J. Bennett, known to the many she loved as “Pat” or “Patti,” passed away peacefully and without pain on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the age of 68, surrounded by the love of her beloved husband of 46 years, Jim Bennett, and daughter, Elizabeth Bennett. She is affectionately remembered by her siblings Jim Sepull (and Donna), Carol Clearwood, and Tom Sepull, and is now in the presence of her brother, Phil Sepull, brother-in-law Joe Clearwood, and parents, Vernice and Hutton Sepull. She will be deeply missed by dozens of nieces and nephews and their children, her second “play group” family of families, the “WHW” spiritual group, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church community, and the many, many friends she made along her journey. Patti was a woman of strong faith. She lived out this commitment by serving her community, supporting her friends and family, and making time to marvel and delight at God’s work. She loved going for walks, watching the sunset, and seeing the fall leaves turn. She sent hundreds of birthday, sympathy, and special occasion cards to her friends and family each year. She was a patron and enthusiast of the arts, and always made time for performances at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, exhibits at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and musicals at Grosse Ile High School. Patti sought out and delighted in opportunities to serve, lead, organize, and volunteer. She not only used her talents to work for justice and address suffering, but also to empower others volunteer, learn, and donate. Patti relished every opportunity she had to make the world a better place. As one friend expressed this week, “I don’t know anyone who has done so much for other people.” Everyone is invited to celebrate Patti’s life and mourn her passing. We will gather at the Trenton Chapel of Martenson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 5, from 3:00-8:00pm. From 6:00-8:00pm anyone who is moved to do so is invited to share stories or memories –laughter and tears are equally welcomed, masks are required. On Monday, December 6 we will gather at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grosse Ile for a noon mass. All are welcome to stay for lunch. Social distancing or masks are required.
