Olympia Sutherland

Olympia A (Ghindia) Sutherland, age 92 of Trenton; passed away peacefully October 26, 2015. Life-long resident of the Downriver Area. Olympia was born, June 28, 1923 in Niles, OH, to Romanian immigrants John and Mary, and soon moved to Ecorse, where she was raised along with her younger brother John V, graduating from Ecorse High School in 1941. She worked at Michigan Bell for 10 years. Devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her loving family: husband of 67 years, Gilbert "Gil"; children, Karen, Nancy and Mark; grandchildren, Abby and Emma; first cousin, Sylvia Barbot Caruso (Bruno); nieces and nephews Mary Beth (Ghindia) Cirocco, George Ghindia, Suzanne (Ghindia) Robertson, John Bruno Caruso, Janet Ghindia, John R. Ghindia and many friends. Olympia volunteered for years at South Shore Hospital in Trenton. She enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was a tremendous host for countless family gatherings. After Gil's retirement from Ford Motor Co., Olympia and him traveled extensively, including Romania, and numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and other destinations. They also resided briefly in Henderson, NV and Bayonet Pointe, FL. They enjoyed an amazing life together, including a glorious retirement!.
