Nick was born on June 25, 1937 to Angelo and Grace (Speziale) Curto in Hamilton, Ontario. He grew up in Toledo, Ohio and resided in Monroe, Michigan. Nick was the oldest of three children. He is survived by two sisters, Jerry Wirtz and Kathy Nachtrab. Nick was a wonderful brother, uncle and good friend. He will be incredibly missed by all whose lives he touched. Nick graduated from the University of Toledo with a Chemical Engineering Degree and from Princeton University with a Masters of Engineering. Nick was a member of the social fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Blue Key Honor Society, which recognizes college students for all-around excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. Nick was a Chief Scientist at Owens Illinois where he was responsible for the development of the two-liter plastic bottle among many other projects. Nick was a lifelong athlete and was committed to regular exercise. He loved competitive handball, sailing, downhill skiing and regular workouts at the YMCA. He owned a small home in Boyne City, which was the home base for his passion for skiing. He shared this place with his friends and family as he guided his nieces and nephews up and down Boyne Mountain’s slopes. Nick was a confirmed bachelor. He enjoyed his time alone but he really loved people and many people loved him. He brought intelligent conversation, hilarious stories, and excellent company to every gathering. He was a member of the Boyne City Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was a regular at the Clamdigger in Monroe. He had friends everywhere. He was a very generous person, who was always ready to help a friend through a problem or to help out his extended family. He never came to a family gathering empty handed. He always had a smile on his face. After Nick passed, we received so many calls from friends sharing Nick Curto stories. It is clear to us that Nick was an everyday saint. We loved him immensely. Nick Curto will be greatly missed. There will be a Memorial Visitation and Service for Nick on July 7, 2021 at the Allore Funeral Home and Chapel in Monroe, MI ( https://www.martenson.com ). In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Monroe YMCA ( http://www.ymcaofmonroe.org ). We are planning another memorial service in Boyne City at the Fraternal Order Eagles later in the summer
