Nancy Sousa

Nancy Sousa, Age 74, of Detroit, MI passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023. Beloved wife of Timothy L. Sousa. Loving daughter of John and Josephine Curtis (Deceased). Loving mother of KellyAnn Sousa (Deceased), Thomas C. Sousa (Debbie, Deceased), and Heather L. Sousa. Cherished grandmother of Steven Sousa (Andriana Soto) Matthew Sousa, Brandon Sousa (Christine Stokes), Thomas Sousa II (Deceased), Cherlene Sousa, Alexander Sousa, and John Cruse (Deceased). Great Grandmother of Anthony Sousa, Mariah Sousa, and Aaliyah Sousa.

Dear sister of Thomas Curtis (Deceased), Charles Curtis (Deceased), John, A.K.A. Jack, Curtis (Deceased), Margaret Butler, Geraldine, A.K.A. Tiny, Dobbs (Deceased), Gary Curtis, and Susan, A.K.A. Sue, Tereshinski.

Nancy was a treasured aunt to many loving nieces and nephews, and loved by many children that were not truly her own, whom fondly referred to her as Mom, Granny or Nana. These Children included Pam Clayton, and her daughter Kari Clayton (Deceased), Crystal Gomer and her tribe.

Nancy and her husband Tim met Richard and Gail Garcia in 1977. Although, they did not know it at the time, they were creating a lifelong friendship. The friendship grew into a familial bond between parents and children alike. The Garcia Children: Lisa (her son Mario), Lorrie (her children Angela. Affectionately known to Nancy as Angelface, Richard, and Jeffrey), Anthony (Deceased) (his son Robert), David (his daughter Kastein, affectionately known to Nancy as lady bug) and Andrea (her son Dominic, affectionately also known as Nicky) loved Nancy as a second mother and Nana. Over the years the boys played hockey and baseball together and the girls became best friends too. The children were at one house or the other all the time, and were taught respect, religion, and discipline by both sets of parents. Over time the Sousa family and the Garcia family saw themselves as one family with a bond that extended well beyond friendship. Other people often tell family members that a blended family such as this with so much history and love for one another has never been witnessed before. Even if time elapses between some of them seeing others believe that if one of them is in need the rest of them are there.

The friendships Nancy forged were held in great regard, and her home was often the spot to gather at. She hosted daily coffee with neighbors, she was an open door to dear friends whenever they needed her, and a venue for baby showers, barbecues, and birthday parties for family and friends, alike. She also hosted a mean game of penny bingo, pinochle, or poker on a regular basis. Nancy was the hostess with the mostest.

Nancy was also very active in the church for many years and was also deeply involved in youth sports clubs such as the S.W. Demons woman’s club.

Nancy will be deeply missed by many loving family and friends.
