Illa Marie Fourn, age 87, of Monroe, MI formerly of Texas, passed away at 4:55 PM Sunday March 2, 2014 at The Lutheran Home of Monroe, she had been in declining health. Illa was born in Black Hawk Co., Iowa February 13, 1927 to the late Elery J. and Anna M. (Mengel) Dunkelberger. Illa was married to James Akers and then to Robert Fourn who both preceded her in death. She moved to the Monroe area in 2000 from Nacogdoches, TX to be near her daughter. Illa' favorite hobby was listening to music and singing in the church choir. Illa loved all animals; she enjoyed sewing and crafts, was a member of Frenchtown Senior Center and attended St Paul's Lutheran Church Trenton, MI. Illa is survived by her daughters, Suz (Mark) Raymond of Monroe and Cynthia (James) Vess of Texas; sister, Thelma Horak of Iowa; grandchildren, Theresa (Craig) Shafer of Brownstown, MI, Sam (Ashley Laeder ) Kenney Jr. of Addison, MI and James (Jessica) Vess of Texas; great grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, Nicholas and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, siblings Loren, Hazel and Leona. In keeping with Illa's wishes her body was donated to Michigan State University. There will no visitation, a Memorial Service will be at 1:30 PM Saturday March 8, 2014 in The Lutheran Home Chapel 1236 S. Monroe St. Monroe, MI. 48161 (734 241 9533), Pastor John Schinkel will officiate. The Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes Monroe assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Illa's name may be made to The Lutheran Home, Pro Medica Hospice, Alzheimer's Association or St Paul's Lutheran Church Trenton, MI.
