William "Bill" Hamm of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Monroe, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice following a short illness. He was born on February 23, 1932 in Long Beach, CA, the son of Harold and Fern (Forsythe) Hamm. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953. He served aboard the USS Kenneth Whiting AV-14 during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal (one star), United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. On April 22, 1986, Bill married Rosalie Staelgraeve Frey in Las Vegas. Bill worked at the Ford Livonia plant for 31 years, retiring in 1998. Bill loved being in Las Vegas, where he and Rosie visited often before moving full time in 2001. He was an avid bowler, and boater, and loved watching all sports. He was a long time little league coach in Garden City, MI where several of his teams were state champions in the early 80's. Bill loved the casinos, playing the ponies, and Texas Hold 'em. But mostly he just loved being with Rosie. Bill was a former member of UAW Local 182, the American Legion, and Detroit Beach Boat Club. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Las Vegas; daughter, Pamela Elandt of North Carolina; son, Robert Hamm of Westland, MI; stepchildren, Cheryl (Bob) Edwards, Mike (Laura) Frey, both of Monroe and Donnie Frey of Arizona; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 5 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Jimmie and Dale Hamm. In accordance with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Bill's memory to the American Cancer Society by calling 1-800-227-2345. .
