Meyer, Robert Ernest, Sr., of Allen Park, on January 30, 2013 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Irene (Bachor) for sixty years until her death in 2009. Dearest father of Tom (Maralee) of Ypsilanti, Barbara (Joseph Lucas) of Dearborn, and Robert (Shirlee) of Portland, Oregon. Devoted grandfather of Rachel (Jim), Sarah (Christopher), Benjamin (Tasha), Mary, Joseph, and Jacob (Nicole) Meyer; Elizabeth (Austin), John (Beth), and Robert Lucas; and Emily (Marcus), Alyson (Jared), and Michael Meyer. Much-loved great-grandpa to Katie, Emma, and Natalie Forsyth, Xavier Bell and Kaidin Meyer, Jack and Sammy Lucas, and three more great-grandchildren expected shortly. Dear brother of Ruth Burton and the late Alice, Marie, and Mildred. Bob was the son of Ernest and Alice Meyer of Dearborn. He was a graduate of Fordson High School. He served proudly in the 246th Combat Engineers in WWII, landing at Normandy on D-Day plus three at the age of nineteen. He was seriously wounded in the Battle of the Bulge while his company was constructing bridges and clearing mines, for which he received the Purple Heart. After five months in the hospital, he was reunited with his company and was about to be shipped to the Pacific Theatre when the war ended. Bob and Irene were among the earliest members of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, and he greatly treasured his parish and the friendships he made there in the Cabrini Dad's Club. He was a tool and die maker by trade, and used those talents in his retirement to create beautiful woodworking and scroll saw projects which he generously shared with family and friends. He was still creating projects and enjoying his Dads' Club lunches and Saturday morning "breakfast club" with his buddies as recently as December. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and long-time neighbors. Memorial contributions to honor his life may be made to ">Boys Town
