Born in Monroe, Richard was the son of George & Helen (Reisig) Blum. A veteran of the United Stated Army, Richard married Alice Lorenz-Witte on July 19, 1974. He worked for over 40 years at Time Container as well as Farming from 1946 through 2004. An avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, Richard also enjoyed Beekeeping and at one time had over 400 hives. Richard was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ida as well as St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maybee. Richard leaves to cherish his memory Alice, his wife of over 38 years; his step children: Eileen (Peter) Bogoski of Mancelona, George Witte of Meridian, Mississippi, Rev. Gary (Winifred Wirth) Witte of Milford, Connecticut, Amy (Jim) Helzer of Maybee, Carole (Gerald) Bogoski of Carleton, Jill (Anthony) Chacon of Stevensville, Michigan, Shirley (James) West of Maybee and Nathan (Jocelyn) Witte of Highlands Park, Colorado; as well as 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Loren (Sandra) Blum of Warren and two sisters: Mary Lou Tatlock of Lafayette, Indiana and Nancy (Richard) Heiss of Novi; a brother-in-law Robert Doty of Monroe and many nieces and nephews. Sadly Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Allen Blum; two sisters: Ruth Bedell and Jean Ann Doty as well as a special nephew Randy Blum.
