Paul R. DeRoest, age 92, of Rockwood, MI passed away March 8, 2014 at Atria King Haven Assisted Living in Riverview, MI. Paul was born July 24, 1921 in Wyandotte Heights, MI to the late Emil and Elsie (Laub) DeRoest. Paul attended schools in Wyandotte, he married Virginia Barker January 19, 1946 at St Mary's Catholic Church Rockwood, sadly she preceded him in death on December 29, 2002. Paul proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII; he participated in action against the enemy at Bougainville, British Solomon Islands, Guam, Marianas Islands, Iwo Jim and Volcano Islands. Paul was employed for over 40 years as a welder at the Pennwalt Chemical Company in Wyandotte, MI. His memberships included St Mary's Catholic Church Rockwood, Life member of Pennwalt Club, Life member of V.F.W. Post #4230 Rock of Gibraltar, American Legion Post #426 Trenton, Elk's Lodge #1731 Flat Rock, Life Member Marine 3rd Division Association and was a past member of Rockwood Volunteer Department. Paul is survived by grandchildren, April (Steve) Harenza of W. Bloomfield, MI, Greg (Angela) Yoas of Britton, MI and Tony (Brenda) Hall of Lake Station, MI; great grandchildren, Steven, Felisha, Alisha, Vincent and Joseph; son in law, Jeffrey Hall of Newport, MI; niece and nephew, Mary Lou Bennett of Trenton, MI and Gary DeRoest of Tombstone, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, daughters, Pamela Ann Yoas and Paulette Mary Hall; brothers, Harry and Arthur DeRoest.
