Mr. Oliver J. Swope

Born in Monroe, Oliver was the son of Oliver P. & Viola (Miller) Swope. He married Betty Chadwell on December 15, 1948. Sadly she preceded him in death December 16, 2001. Oliver was a Switchman with C&O Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. Some of Oliver's favorite pastimes were making trips to the casino or the horse track. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing or fishing. Oliver leaves to cherish his memory his daughters: Terry (David) Hicks of Monroe and Michelle Swope of Newport; grandchildren: David Hicks Jr. and Chelsea Johnson; a great granddaughter Shey Keller-Hicks; a sister Nancy Waltz of Monroe; sisters-in-law Beth Swope of Monroe, Shirley Swope of Monroe and Shirley "Speed" Swope of Monroe; brother and sister-in-law John & Nancy Chadwell of Monroe; as well as many nieces, nephews and long time neighbor and friend Roger Young. In addition to his wife Betty and parents, Oliver was preceded in death by three brothers: Wallace Swope, Richard Swope and Bucky Swope; as well as two sisters: Betty Orr and Sally Malvitz.
