James Dennis Cowan, born August 17, 1925, Detroit Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2013 in his home on Grosse Ile, Michigan. He is survived by wife of 62 years, Rose Celine (O'Neill) Cowan, 7 children, Robert (Stina), Mike (Jane), Pat Cowan Hemlock (Jim), Kevin (Theresa), Ann, Jimmy (Mary Lynne), Dan, (Jennifer), 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jim graduated from All Saints High School in Detroit, where he was class president, Captain of the Basketball team and a member of the baseball team. After graduation Jim proudly served as a United States Marine during WWII and later became an active member of VFW Post 7310. After the war Jim attended Western Michigan University and graduated from University of Detroit with a degree in Business. He started a long and distinguished career with Detroit Edison retiring after 38 years and becoming one of the founding members of the D. E. A. R. Club. Extremely active in the Grosse Ile community, Jim served 4 years as Township Supervisor, 8 years as a Trustee and was also a past Sacred Heart Parish Council President. Jim loved his Family and he loved to travel. He camped extensively with his wife and children throughout United States and Canada. After visiting all 50 states He and his wife continued to enjoy extensive traveling in Europe and Asia. But the travels he enjoyed most was visiting his children and grandchildren throughout the United States which he did on a regular basis
