Mr Elwood Charles Sovey, Sr.

Elwood Charles Sovey Sr., age 98, of Rockwood, MI. passed away Friday April 19, 2013 at Fountainview of Monroe, he had been in declining health. Elwood was born June 11, 1914 in Detroit, MI to Peter E. and Hazel M. (Berry) Sovey; he attended St Charles Grade School and Carleton High School. He married Evelyn M. Barron in 1935 at St Charles Catholic Church; sadly she preceded him in death in 1994. Elwood proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, his memberships included St Mary's Catholic Church Rockwood, Life Member Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1157 Rockwood, American Legion Sovey- Fowler Post Rockwood, Charter Member Vietnam Veterans Museum Monroe, Life Member Disabled American Veterans and was a retired agent for Sun Life Insurance Co. for over 40 years. Elwood enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing, playing Keno, Euchre and being with his family. Elwood is survived by his son Jim (Nancy) Sovey of LaSalle; brother, Robert (Helen) Sovey of Newport; sister, Jean Rose Gearhart of Newport; Grandchildren, Steve (Kelly) Sovey and Lisa Sovey; great grandchildren, Amanda, Angie, Brenda, Erin, Chelsea and Brandon; great- great grandchildren, Abby, Drew, Alyssa, Zane, Cavin and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, Jack Sovey and Elwood Sovey Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis Ann Sovey.
