Edwin R. Schwenk, 80 Passed at home on November 28, 2011, with his family by his side in Brownstown, MI. Memorial service scheduled for 11am, Saturday, Dec 3 at St Thomas Lutheran church. 9393 Church Road, Grosse Ile, MI, 48138. Ed was born Sept 20, 1931, in Detroit, MI to Gustav and Otilia Schwenk, the youngest child of 5 (Hedwig, Alice, Elmer, Lorraine, Edwin). He graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit. Ed was active in the church choir, where he met and married JoAnn Tistle on Sept 19, 1959. Ed was passionate about life. He loved boating, music, was a gifted athlete and most of all loved his family and was an outstanding husband and father. Ed was active in his church and community. He served in the Navy reserves on Grosse Ile, was part of the Dearborn Heights' police reserves, and held many roles in the United States Power Squadron from safe boating instructor all the way up to District 9 commander. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn for over 35 years and retired in 1991. Ed spent his retirement years with family and friends, being active in USPS and traveling the world with JoAnn, the love of his life. Ed is survived by his wife, JoAnn Schwenk; sister, Alice Moeller; brother, Elmer Schwenk; 2 sons and 2 daughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Jeffrey Schwenk/Dupuie, Alan Schwenk, Deborah and Bob Theisen and Jeffrey and Jeanette Schwenk; 5 wonderful grandchildren, Rachael, Alex, Stephanie, Kaitlynn, and Christian; and many extended family and friends. Ed's life was blessed by the love of family and friends.
