Donald Krieg, 84, of Grosse Ile, Michigan died Thursday August 20, 2015 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital after a short illness. Don was born in Lorain, Ohio at Saint Joseph's Hospital on March 17, 1931, the son of William Krieg Mildred (nee Berry) Krieg , both of Lorain Ohio. Don graduated from Lorain High School in 1949 and earned an associate aeronautical degree with honors from Kent State and Case Western Reserve in Ohio. Don served two years in the US Army, including one year in Korea, ascending to the rank of Staff Sergeant while earning the United Nations Service Medal and two bronze stars. He was an accomplished wrestler and boxer through his early 30's He was employed by BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, Ohio for 13 years and the Ford Motor Company as a Process Engineer in Lorain, Ohio for 10 years, spending 15 additional years in the Ford Pilot Plant in Dearborn, MI where he participated in and led major new car model launch projects at various locations throughout North America. Don earned private, instrument, commercial and other pilot ratings while flying many hundreds of hours. He was a resident of Grosse, Ile MI for 39 years and an active member of the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. and greatly enjoyed dancing throughout his life, often to the joy and entertainment of many. In addition to his wife Shirley M. (nee Moore) Krieg, Don is survived by sons Terry L. Krieg of Scottsdale, Arizona and Perry L. Krieg of Ballwin, Missouri, five grandchildren – Ethan, Jessica, Lauren, Michael and Valerie, and several nieces and nephews in Ohio. Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents Oscar and Lottie Berry of Lorain, OH, parents William H. and Mildred R. (nee Berry) Krieg, who moved from Ohio to Arizona in the 1950's, his brothers William and Harvey Krieg, and his son Berry W Krieg, all from Lorain, Ohio. Don and wife Shirley were members of the Grosse Ile, MI Yacht Club and members of The Islanders. They were also members of American Legion in Arizona, where they wintered five months each year for 16 yrs. Don had a great love for nature, music and dance, frequently found feeding his many critters in his large yard in Michigan, listening to his vast musical library, and entertaining many with Shirley and Don's masterful dance. In his later years, Don frequently donated his time and energy to maintaining and improving the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. Friends may call on Friday August 28, 2015 from 7-9 PM at Martenson Funeral Home, 3200 West Rd, in Trenton, MI – (734) 671-5400. Pastor Philip J Reed will conduct a commemorative service Saturday August 29, 2015 at 11 AM at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. A private burial will follow in Lorain, Ohio.
