Boyd T. Holdren, age 105, passed away Friday November 29, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family. Boyd was born March 27, 1908 near St Mary's Ohio, one of seven boys and five girls. There were two sets of twins, Boyd and his brother being one. He is the only surviving sibling. He graduated from Graceland Junior College in Iowa in 1928, with honors. He then went on to Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, where he graduated in 1931 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. Boyd accepted a position in Michigan at Sharples Chemical Corp. Wyandotte as a chemical engineer. He worked in the same office in the same building until he retired at age 65 in 1973. Boyd married Enid E. Johns June 20, 1936 in St Mary's, Ohio, sadly she preceded in death September 5, 2011 after 75 years of marriage. There first home was on Cherry Island, he built his present home in 1955. Before he retired Boyd started planting fruit trees for a hobby, it included 200 trees and 48 varieties of fruit and soon became Holdren Orchard. Boyd;s hobbies included fishing, gardening, reading, small game hunting, golfing, softball, bowling and playing his harmonica. He served on the Gibraltar School Board and the Brownstown Twp Board of Appeals. Boyd is survived by children, Byrne (Janet) Holdren of Gibraltar, Barry Holdren of Luna Pier, Koneta (Raymond) Martin of Newport and Andrea (Eric) Johnson of Frenchtown Twp; 13 Grandchildren, 4 step Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 4 step Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse and siblings. The Holdren family would like to express special THANKS to Peggy Haines.
