Born in Chicago, Illinois, Arthur was the son of Alexander & Mary (Grutzicco) Bastien. He married the love of his life, Florence Mae Sharbeneau on February 22, 1941. Sadly she preceded him in death December 13, 1996. A veteran of the United States Army, Arthur worked for F.W. Ritter and Sons pottery in Rockwood for 9 years. He later worked for Monsanto for 26 years, retiring in 1983. He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockwood where he served as an usher. Arthur was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 102 in Trenton, VFW Post 4230 Rock of Gibraltar and the Woodhaven Moose. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Maureen (Marvin) Burbo of Brownstown as well as three grandchildren: eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son Arthur Bastien, Jr.: two brothers and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
