Allen Harrell went to be with his Lord and Savior at age 96 on February 5, 2014. Born on January 6, 1918 in Woodbury, Tennessee, he was the youngest son of the 14 children born to Perry & Maggie Harrell. After spending time in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he met and married Lula Mae Timberlake in 1940. The two were married for 72 years before Lula Mae passed away in 2013. Together they made their home in Michigan, where they raised their 3 children. He served in the US Army during World War 2, and then came home to Detroit where he worked as a truck driver, being named the "Michigan Driver of the Year" in 1977 by the Michigan Trucking Association, Inc. For many years he faithfully lead 300+ young adults in the Young People II Sunday School class at Gilead Baptist Church in Detroit. Allen is survived by his children: Al (Mary Ann) Harrell, Betty Tessmer and Ken (Debbie) Harrell; as well as 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
