Mildred (Jirasek) Hartwell, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 9th within days of her 95th birthday. She was born on October 12, 1920 to Frank and Antonie Jirasek and grew up in Detroit graduating from Northwestern High School where she met her life-long sweetheart, Donald. After marrying, she accompanied him to New York where he was stationed during the war. After the war, she and Donald moved back to Michigan and Grosse Ile (Hickory Island) where she spent the remaining years of her life. In her early years, she was a stay at home mom to her three children. Later, she was the executive secretary to Richard Manoogian at the Masco Corporation. She loved to travel the world; to sail; play the harp, organ, and piano; and she had the sweet soprano singing voice of an angel. However, nothing could bring a smile to her face more readily than the sight of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all knew her affectionately as "Mimi". She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Donald; sons Brian (Katie) and David (Kate); daughter Jeanne (Tony); grandchildren: Claire, Becca, Ellen, Mark, and Trevor; and great-grandchildren: Julien, Oliver, and Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Libbie, Ella, Mamie, and Betty. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 25150 East River Road, Grosse Ile, Friday, November 27, 2015 at 5:30 pm. Memorial donations suggested to St. James Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
