Maureen Anne Smith, age 74 of Monroe, passed away September 1, 2024.

Born February 10, 1950 in Monroe, Maureen was the daughter of and Walter and Margaruite (Nadeau) Alexander. A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, she then received her teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University. Maureen’s teaching career spanned more than 40 years, first with St. John’s School here in Monroe and then with Detroit Public Schools. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. She enjoyed watching TBS, jeopardy and knitting.

Marueen leaves to cherish her memory a son Steven Smith; granddaughter Alexandra VanRiper; as well as 2 siblings: Kathleen Maloche and Suzanne Alexander. Sadly she was preceded in death by her parents; as daughter Betsy Smith and 4 siblings: William Alexander, Mary Rose Alexander, James Alexander and Paula Holton.

In accordance with Maureen’s wishes cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Allore Chapel. A Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Maureen and her daughter Betsy will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Friends may gather from 10am until Mass at 11am.
