Mary Grego, age 95 of La Salle, passed away peacefully at home on January 7th, 2025.
Born in Indiana Harbor, IN, Mary was the daughter of the late Nick and Mary (Cristea) Orastian. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1946, she married her love, the late Charles S. Grego on October 1st, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroe. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree (1968) and Master’s degree (1971), both in education, from Eastern Michigan University. In June of 1990, Mary retired after more than 24 years as a 4th grade and kindergarten teacher at Custer Elementary in Monroe.
Mary was a devoted member of St. Joseph, and later St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the National Education Association, Michigan Education Association, and a founding member of the La Salle V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time and following retirement, she enjoyed traveling, crafts, bowling, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons: Gregory S. (Amy) Grego of South Whitley, IN, Charles R. (Linda) Grego of Atlantic Mine, MI, David (JoAnne) Grego of Marathon, FL, Dr. Gary A. (Lisa) Grego of Bowling Green, OH; daughters: Cynthia M. (Gary) Hauser of Monroe, Terri A. Grego and Mary Beth Grego of La Salle; grandchildren: Nicholas Grego, Cassandra (Justin) Hardy, Melissa (Steve) Baker, C.J. Grego, Ryan (Nicole) Grego, Scott (Shirl) Grego, Brianne (Todd) Davis, Kyle (Lanae) Hauser; great grandchildren: Aidan Grego, Sophia Grego, Hadley Hardy, Hazel Hardy, Harlow Hardy, Weston Baker, Anabel Baker, Gavin Grego, Garrett Grego, Libby Grego, Amara Davis, Jemma Davis, Jensen Davis, Paisley Hauser, and Liam Hauser.
Visitation will take place on Sunday January 12th, 2025 from 12:00pm – 9:00pm, Rosary Service 6:00pm, at the Allore Chapel- Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm, Monroe, MI 48162. The family will receive friends on Monday January 13th, 2025 from 10:00am until time of Mass 11:00am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 511 S Monroe St., Monroe, MI 48161.
