Mary 'Betty Jane' Mahone

Mary "Betty Jane" Mahone, 85, of Allen Park passed away on January 12, 2017 in Wyandotte, MI. Loving wife of the late Arnold Mahone of Allen Park, MI. Betty was born in Louisa, KY to Bennett and Garnett (Adkins) Sparks on June 10, 1931. Moving to Michigan in 1952, Betty began a life-long career in hospitality. Betty's exuberant personality graced establishments such as the Holiday Inn, the Palace, My Granny's and Fry's Food and Spirits. Donning the front page of the Downriver News Herald on May 7, 2003, Betty was featured as the "Energizer Bunny" and was heralded for her longevity and professionalism. She excelled in her field, creating life-long friendships and memories of which she enjoyed her entire life. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, her yard full of flowers and being surrounded by her family. Beloved mother of Guy Sparks of Allen Park, Dale (Jake) Kasprzyk of Carleton, Dan (Fran) Mahone of Dearborn and Lesa (Jeff) Schock of Carleton and preceded in death by her step-son Carlos Mahone. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Born the oldest of 11 children, Betty is preceded in death by her brothers Jim, Dick and Okey Sparks and one sister Billie Jo Forton and is survived by her brothers Howard (Donna), Coalby (Patricia), Charles and George (Marie) Sparks and her sisters Effie Hypes and Nancy Maloney. Visitation is on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1 pm until the time of the Celebration of Life Service which will begin Sunday at 5 pm, all at The Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes.
